Resurrection is pleased to present a Comme des Garçons off-white and black mesh kilt-style skirt from the Fall/Winter 2000–2001 collection, a striking example of Rei Kawakubo’s exploration of hybridity, transparency, and subverted tradition.
Constructed from a sheer, structured mesh, the skirt reimagines the classic kilt through a distinctly avant-garde lens. The wrap silhouette is anchored by two black leather belts with metal buckles at the waist, introducing a utilitarian, almost industrial contrast to the otherwise ethereal textile.
The layered front panel creates subtle dimensionality, with overlapping sections that shift in opacity as the garment moves. The semi-translucent mesh reveals underlying structure and shadow, emphasizing Kawakubo’s ongoing dialogue between concealment and exposure. A-line in shape, the skirt falls below the knee with a controlled yet fluid drape.
The juxtaposition of rigid leather hardware against delicate mesh encapsulates Comme des Garçons’ signature tension—where softness meets structure, and tradition is dismantled and rebuilt with radical intent.
Both sculptural and wearable, this Fall/Winter 2000–2001 piece reflects a pivotal era in Comme des Garçons’ design language, where historical references are abstracted into something entirely modern.
This Comme des Garçons skirt has been carefully curated by Resurrection as part of its archival collection of seminal avant-garde fashion.
