A spectacular example of Ford’s maximalist approach to outerwear, this Archive piece combines rich tonal fur, graphic animal print, and sharply considered hardware into an exceptionally striking silhouette.
Constructed in a luxurious mix of brown and leopard-print fur, this long coat features an oversized foldover collar and a straight, elongated silhouette falling below the knee. The rich brown fur forms the central body, while contrasting leopard-print sections frame the sleeves and appear in horizontal bands throughout the back and lower coat. The sleeves are finished with oversized cuffs and black exposed zip details, while additional vertical zip pockets sit along the front. The coat is completed with a dramatic oversized collar and carefully pieced fur panels, giving the entire garment a distinctly sculptural quality.
The piece is from Tom Ford’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection, presented in Los Angeles in February 2015. The collection marked a particularly rich moment in Ford’s exploration of 1970s-inspired glamour, with fur, leopard, patchwork, suede, fringe, and leather appearing throughout the runway.
